A day surgery center — also called an ambulatory surgical center — is a licensed facility for procedures performed under local, regional or light general anesthesia where the patient recovers and is discharged the same day. It carries its own operating theatre and recovery-room standards, positioned between a medical center (no surgical capability) and a hospital (full inpatient surgical and post-op capacity).
Depending on the emirate, your day surgery center is licensed by one of three regulators — each with its own OT construction and anesthesia-provider standards:

A day surgery center is licensed for procedures where the patient is discharged the same day, with no overnight inpatient beds, while a hospital is licensed for admission and extended inpatient stays. This keeps a day surgery center's staffing, space and equipment requirements significantly lighter than a hospital's.
What procedures can be performed at a licensed day surgery center?
Typical procedures include minor orthopedic, ophthalmic, ENT, plastic/cosmetic, dental-surgical and gastroenterology procedures under local, regional or light general anesthesia. Anything requiring overnight monitoring or a higher anesthesia risk profile is generally excluded from this facility type.
