A polyclinic is a licensed outpatient facility that houses several specialties — typically general medicine plus a mix of dermatology, dental, physiotherapy, gynecology, pediatrics or similar — under one facility license and one medical director. It sits between a single clinic (one specialty) and a medical center or hospital (broader diagnostic and, in a hospital's case, inpatient capability).
Depending on the emirate, your polyclinic is licensed by one of three regulators — each with its own specialty-mix rules, space-per-department requirements and staffing ratios:

Beyond the standard facility license, polyclinics require: individual professional licensing for every practitioner in every specialty before the facility license is issued, specialty-specific equipment permits (X-ray for dental/orthopedic, laser device permits for dermatology, ultrasound for gynecology), a declared and approved specialty mix on the license itself, and Malaffi/NABIDH/Riayati connectivity before go-live. Adding a specialty after opening typically requires a license amendment and a follow-up inspection.

How many specialties are required to license a polyclinic in the UAE?
There's no fixed minimum in most emirates, but a polyclinic is generally expected to offer at least three to four distinct specialties to be classified separately from a single clinic. The exact threshold and required specialty mix depend on the licensing authority — we confirm this during feasibility.
Does every specialty in a polyclinic need its own medical director?
No — a polyclinic has one overall medical director responsible for the facility, but each specialty department still needs its own licensed practitioners meeting that specialty's individual professional licensing requirements.
